Transparent tempera watercolours in block form and with fine pigment content. Use the colours with water and a sturdy brush on white absorbent paper or card. Help young children the first time the watercolours are used: it can be difficult for the youngest children to make a hole in the new smooth surface of the colour blocks but this is easily done by running a wet sturdy brush around the surface until it is no longer smooth.
