The Captain Stripe eye patch ensures a constantly sharp vision. On a pirate ship the captain has responsibilities both on deck and inside and therefore often needs to move back and forth. However there is rarely any light inside making it a good idea to always have an eye that is accustomed to darkness. It cannot be completely ruled out that some pirates have been injured in duels and therefore need to cover one eye.
