Kaptain Cross's hat is the Captain's old hat from his time as an admiral which has been adapted to his new role as a pirate. With the skull and crossed swords motif there should be no doubt that the Captain no longer takes orders from others but determines the course of battle himself. The fate of the person responsible for the two bullet holes in the Captain's hat is unknown but it is never recommended to cross Captain Cross.
