The book revolves around a Seoul convenience store owned by retired history teacher and grandmother Mrs. Yeom who decides to give a homeless man a second chance at life when he returns her misplaced purse to her one afternoon by offering him part-time work at the store. The man and his past are somewhat of a mystery and throughout the course of the novel his background is explored as he connects with customers from all walks of life who visit and work in the store for a variety of reasons. All told with warmth and humour.
