Susanne Ring (b. 1966) creates enigmatic creatures from fired clay. Though recognizable as physical figures through simple features such as a head arms and legs they do not duplicate prototypical patterns. These bodies are not organisms that have grown but fragile shells that as the mediating boundaries between the individual and the outside world have themselves been transformed into figures. However instead of answering the question of whether human corporeality is a blessing or a curse they embody the right to ambivalence and non-identity in the truest sense of the word. Tempel shows current works in ceramics and paper as well as images of exhibitions from the last few years.
