The induction furnace has long and firmly established itself as a competitive technology for melting holding and pouring key metals. This holds true both for the sphere of cast iron and steel as well as for copper and aluminium alloys. At the same time new process technologies for making castings and semi-finished products have given rise to the evolution of specific melting and pouring furnaces. Conversely induction furnace technology has actually enabled the development and industrial application of new process technologies e. g. in the case of the horizontal continuous caster for copper materials.
