The helical drilling technology using ultrashort pulsed lasers can generate higher precision in the hole geometry through the layer-by-layer ablation strategy. To enhance the performance of the helical optics with respect to drilling precision complexity and productivity dynamic helical drilling processes with adapted energy deposition are employed. The cumulative optimization results show an increase of the process efficiency by a factor of 4 and a maximum hole aspect ratio of 50:1 in 3 mm stainless steel.
