This thesis investigates optimization problems constrained by partial differential equations with microchannel systems as novel applications: We consider the shape optimization of a microchannel cooling system and the optimal control of a microchannel reactor for the Sabatier process. Moreover we propose and analyze nonlinear conjugate gradient methods for shape optimization and introduce our software package cashocs.
